Άλλο ένα έγκλημα, μετά το ναυάγιο της Πύλου, συντελέστηκε αυτή τη φορά ανοιχτά της Χίου, με το Ελληνικό Λιμενικό (ΛΣ/ΕΛΑΚΤ) να καταδιώκει βάρκα με πρόσφυγες και να συγκρούεται μαζί της.

Τραγωδία σημειώθηκε το βράδυ της Τρίτης 3 Φεβρουαρίου 2026 στη θαλάσσια περιοχή ανοιχτά του Μερσινιδίου, στο Βροντάδο της ανατολικής Χίου, μετά από σύγκρουση σκάφους του Λιμενικού Σώματος με σκάφος στο οποίο επέβαιναν πρόσφυγες και προσφύγισσες.
